BATTLE OF THE OLD WOMAN'S GUN RE-ENACTMENT

A Re-enactment of the “Battle of the Old Woman’s Gun” at Rancho Dominguez Adobe Museum historic site will be on Saturday, 10th of October 2009 at the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum at 18127 S. Alameda St., in Rancho Dominguez, CA 90220.

Mexican War era re-enactors will be at the ranch house site and will set up period 1840s camps for the day. They will be “in character”and in costume as 1846 American sailors, marines, Californios, and other persons portraying: USN Capt. Mervine, Ramon Carillo, and other related Latinos representing the local rancho families of the period. (These families are still represented in the area and will have displays of their family histories.)

Activities:
A narration and graphic displays of this local history event will also accompany the event.
Local speakers, historians and/or dignitaries from LA County & City.
A possible food vendor serving “early California” style food, (rather than the usual “Sonoran style” Mexican food).
Adobe brick making for visiting children.
Demonstrations of vaquero skills, such as roping.
Cannon and musket fire (using “blank” black powder only) and noise may occur as part of the re-enactment.
Two reenactments can be staged, one in the late morning (11:30 am) and one in the afternoon, (2:00 or 3:00 pm).
