SAINT FERDINAND'S HIGH SCHOOL (MISSION HIGH)

DISCOVERING OUR VALLEY  2011

In the 1950s there was a Roman Catholic girls high school that held classes inside of the Mission San Fernando. If I remember correctly, most people in the Valley just called it Mission High. One of The Museum's Narrating Lives - Oral Histories of the San Fernando Valley's interviewees, Carmela DeRose attended, and graduated from that school. Here's a photograph of Carmela's commencement program. It lists the girls in her graduating class.

Carmela De Rose notes" "The class of 1956 was the last graduating class from the Mission.  Bishop Alemany High School opened the following year."

I took these photographs in haste. The distortions are not in the printing.  (Click on images to enlarge)
If you know any of the women graduates on the program, please have them contact The Museum. We are interested in recovering a history of Saint Ferdinand's High School.

My mother was a graduate of Saint Ferdinand's High School, which she attended there at the San Fernando Mission location. The rooms at the Mission Museum were her classrooms for Typing and English and Math. My mother is a graduate of the Class of 1954. They were known as the "Mission Belles", as she played on the basketball league and was team captain in 1954. Their yearbooks are named "Recuerdos", which was continued through the years at Bishop Alemany High School. Her class of 1954 just celebrated their 60th Reunion last November 2014 and from the 27 students which graduated in 1954, there were 17 ladies that attended. Luncheon at the Odyssey in Granada Hills, CA. My mothers name is Gloria Llach Navarro, Class of 1954.
