Bothwell Ranch Collection - Bonhams Auction This Weekend

A portion of the famed Bothwell Ranch Antique Car Collection is up for auction in Woodland Hills this weekend via Bonhams.

It is a bit sad that the collection will be broken up. This auction will generate millions of dollars from collectors.

However, you can have a rare opportunity to view the collection. Entry to the Preview and Auction is by the purchase of an auction catalogue, $50. One catalogue permits two people entry for all three days of preview and auction. For additional Bonhams Auction info click HERE.

Several of the cars — a 1913 Indianapolis Peugeot, 1908 Prinz Heinrich Benz and 1908 Mercedes Simplex — were on display at Bonhams’ recent auction at The Quail Lodge on the Monterey Peninsula.

Lindley Bothwell was a charter member of the Horseless Carriage Club of America and with his wife, Ann, assembled what Bonhams termed “one of the largest private collections of automobiles in the country.”

Bonhams has stated the Bothwell Collection is without equal.

Lindley and Ann Bothwell - what a life.

Lindley Bothwell (1901— 1986) was a prosperous southern California orange grower, a consulting citrus agriculturalist from his Lindley Bothwell Ranch in the San Fernando Valley, and an antique automobile collector and racer.

He is well known for being a founding member of the Trojan Knights, as well as a Yell Leader at the University of Southern California (USC) and for his invention of moving card stunts in stadiums' bleachers. He was the volunteer coach of the USC Yell Leaders and Song Girls for 60 years.

Helen (Ann) Bothwell passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 17, 2016, with her family at her side. Ann was a strong and loving woman who carried on the "Bothwell Tradition" after the passing of her husband, Lindley F. Bothwell, Sr., in 1986. Ann is survived by her 4 grandchildren,12 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was an active member in many vintage car clubs, USC and the Florence Crittenton Home.

I miss Miss Ann, I was privileged to be the only woman to drive that peugeot and the other cars there at the ranch. I was married to Tim McHenry who worked for the Bothwell family and repaired and fabricated parts and body for that collection, I just did see that Miss Ann passed, a great woman, and the family are the kindest that I know in Woodland Hills. Sorry to see the collection broken up but I pray they keep a few of them especially the Mercedes
